I know you know there’s benefits to running, so here’s 5 key ones for you to remember!
1 – You Just Need A Pair Of Trainers (to start with)
Thats it, a pair of trainers, who doesn’t have a pair? Get them on and get out. One of the cheapest, easiest forms of exercise and something we have been doing as a past time for over 40 years. The only thing stopping you is your excuses. The reason i put “to start with” is because when you start getting into running more you may want some special socks or running bag for the longer distances.
2 – It Lifts Your Mood
We all feel better after a good workout or run. Given, the odd run may make you feel like rubbish but on the whole you will feel better! In a study published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, researchers found that even a single bout of exercise—30 minutes of walking on a treadmill—could instantly lift the mood of someone suffering from a major depressive order. Not only making you feel better it can help reduce stress, boost self-esteem and fight anxiety.
3 – Burn Calories
Running on average burns around 260 calories per 20 minutes (this number is dependant on weight, height, age, speed and terrain). So if you’re looking to burn fat, drop some weight and keep fit then adding running to your programme will be a great addition!
4 – Healthy Heart and Brain
Everyone should be looking after their heart. We only get one. Running helps improve circulation, strengthens the heart and helps reduce the risk of heart attack and high blood pressure. Running also helps the brain, increasing mental functions, blood to the brain and helps it receive oxygen better.
5 – Time To Yourself To Think
I always hear a lot of people say when they run it helps them clear their mind and to find an answer to their question. It almost sounds like a way of meditating and ultimately it can be. With running you don’t have to think about running you just go out and do it, so it gives you time to just think. Just let your mind wander and relax. Think about life, your goals or whatever is bothering you. Sometimes the answer will come to you or sometimes its just a great way to “de stress”.
